Brutalism in Color: Graphics
Amherst, Massachusetts
In 2021, I conceived, designed, and curated Brutalism in Color, an exhibition celebrating the Brutalist architecture of UMass Amherst and Dartmouth at the Bromery Center for the Arts. I also designed the graphic identity for the exhibition and its promotional materials.
The poster took its inspiration from Edward Durell Stone's W.E.B. Du Bois Library , specifically the image of its tower lifting off the ground and trailing a bold rainbow of color behind it. The design abstracts this idea into a vertical composition and color ascends from the base in vivid stripes, reframing a building often seen as severe and imposing as something joyful and alive.
